Transforming AC Vent Cleaning in Indian Railways with NEWPL’s Dry Fog System

The Indian Railways Liluah (LH) Workshop has long faced a significant challenge in maintaining air-conditioned (AC) carriages. Cleaning the AC vents generated excessive dust, leading to discomfort and potential respiratory issues for the cleaning staff. The conventional cleaning methods were ineffective in controlling airborne dust, necessitating an innovative solution.

The Solution: NEWPL’s Dry Fog System

To address this persistent issue, Indian Railways turned to Neogie Engineering Works Pvt Ltd (NEWPL), a leading manufacturer of precision engineering nozzles, spraying systems, and dust suppression solutions. Under the supervision of Mr. Souvik Banerjee, Deputy Chief, Electrical ( DyCEE ) of LLH Workshop, NEWPL successfully implemented a cutting-edge dry fog system. Core team members involved in the project were Mr Debanjan Niyogi (Director), Mr Sanjiban Laha (Technical Specialist) and Mr Sukhen Seal (Operations Manager)

The installed system comprised air-water mixed spray nozzles arranged in three headers, effectively covering a 20-foot area. This advanced configuration ensured thorough cleaning while simultaneously mitigating dust dispersion. The innovative dry fog technology created a fine mist that caused dust particles to settle, significantly improving air quality in the workspace.

Why NEWPL Chose an Air-Water Mixed System?

Dust suppression systems generally fall into dry suppression, wet suppression, and hybrid suppression techniques. The air-water mixed system was selected for this project due to its ability to create ultra-fine droplets, which effectively capture and neutralize airborne dust particles without excessive wetting. Unlike traditional wet suppression methods, which can lead to damp surfaces and operational inefficiencies, this system maintains optimal moisture levels, ensuring safe and effective dust control.

Technical Excellence in Implementation

Executing such a project required meticulous engineering and precision nozzle design. The dry fog system relies on carefully calibrated nozzles that generate a consistent droplet size, ensuring even mist distribution while preventing over-saturation. The system was strategically installed to maximize coverage across the 20-foot area, leveraging precise air pressure and flow rate control for optimal performance. The engineering expertise of NEWPL ensured that the solution was seamlessly integrated into the railway’s maintenance workflow, enhancing efficiency without disrupting operations.

Key Benefits & Impact

  • Enhanced Air Quality: The mist controlled dust without causing discomfort, ensuring a healthier environment for workers.
  • Zero Negative Impact: Unlike traditional methods, the dry fog system did not wet clothes, make surfaces slippery, or create additional maintenance issues.
  • Improved Efficiency: The precise engineering of NEWPL’s nozzles enabled uniform coverage and superior cleaning performance.
  • A Milestone for Indian Railways: This project represents a breakthrough in dust suppression technology for railway maintenance, paving the way for future innovations in workshop safety and efficiency.

Conclusion

The successful deployment of NEWPL’s dry fog system in the LLH Workshop marks the beginning of a new era in railway maintenance. By combining innovation with practical application, NEWPL has reinforced its position as a trusted partner in engineering excellence, offering solutions that enhance both operational efficiency and workplace safety.

With this pioneering project, NEWPL continues to set benchmarks in precision engineering and environmental sustainability, making a tangible difference in industrial dust control and air quality management.
